Anything you can fit in there will work. The casing of the Sega CD is pretty open with lots of empty space, so you’re not forced to cram the smallest parts you can find in there. If you use a big fat fuse, make sure none of it touches any of the metal shielding or anything else conductive…

Just ensure you’ve got the right amperage rating for your fuse.

Interesting video. Not sure why I saw it xD I wonder if you have anything for the sega nomad. Mine broke or i bouht it broken. It turns on but the screen doesn’t show the game

It’s called ‘Flux’. What it does is makes a clean surface for the connection to bond with. A lot of solder comes with a flux core in it, but in some applications (like bonding dissimilar metals) it’s a good idea to use a dab of this stuff.

  4. Riddler95 says:

WHat is that stuff that he dabs onto the end of the fuse at 5:58?

  5. pl00xowner says:

i own one of the 6 million! i actually like it. terminator and sonic are both great

  6. Riddler95 says:

Do you have to use the Mini Glass Fuses?

Are the regular 20MM Glass Fuses good for this?

  7. kettenfaust says:

Interesting. I got my Sega CD without the metal plates and it works pretty well. Never had any issues with it. Sure there’s not a lot of games, but there’s quite a few that make me glad I own one of these things. Final Fight CD for example.

  8. intlogre says:

My sister borrowed my Sega CD a while back and she returned it broken. I thought she did something to it. I never thought the Sega CD would have been developed with shitty components.

    Thanks for the help.

  16. powdertoastman83 says:

What type of wire did you use? Is there anything specific?

  17. Alymero says:

A blown fuse must have been what happened to my Sega CD as it stopped powering up in 1996 and I figured it was just the AC adapter and placed into storage until it was given away in 2002.

    GREAT JOB

  19. transparencypro says:

wow ive learned something new, i figured the cause of most of the failures would have been with the laser that reads the disk, this is pretty cool stuff. im glad i found this video

  20. OrionPimpdaddy says:

Good video. One thing to point out is that there are differences in the boards inside the Sega CD. I fixed mine, but the fuse was on the bottom of the board.

Also, Sonic CD is not the only good game for the Sega CD. There are a couple of good shooter, some RPGs, Road Avenger, Final Fight, etc.

  21. thierryman says:

Yeah, I talked to Reddman about it last night. I’ll be taking a couple of days to decide if I want to that and my gamecube to you guys.

  22. zerodgz says:

If I ever get my hands on one I’ll be sure to add it to the to-be-filmed pile. The Turbografix and its derivatives is/are one of the few consoles I do not own an example of, unfortunately.

  23. Kevinisageek says:

Very good vid, really enjoyed it.

Yay for simple cheap fixes! A little knowledge can go a long way.

  24. thierryman says:

Very informative, now if you can fix my TurboDuo!!!
